Residences and life: He was educated
in Cambridge, earning a master of arts degree in
1574. He commenced medical practice in London without a
license and was called before the censors of the College of
Physicians in 1600. He was found guilty and fined five
pounds and imprisoned. He served eight months of
imprisonment. He was released on petition of his wife in
1602 on grounds of poverty. He continued to practice upon
release but was not again imprisoned.
His practice consisted mainly
in prescription and sale of a remedy called aurum potabile.
He acquired a considerable wealth from the sale of this potion.
This potion was defended by Francis in several publications.
One of the principle healing adjacents was said to be gold.
His father was a gold smith in jewel office of Queen Elizabeth.
