McGee and
Olive Fenton Wade,
was born August 11, 1927 in McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska
and died on February 10, 2009 in Oberlin, Decatur County,
Kansas.
He married
Eva Marie Corcoran on July 27, 1948 in Denver,
Colorado.
They eloped to be married. Later they were married by a
Catholic priest at a ceremony when they returned to Oberlin,
Kansas. The marriage ended in a divorce finalized on
February 15, 1966.

Life/Residences: Raised in Oberlin, Kansas largely in the
same house at 307 West Oak. During his 5th grade year, he
contracted what was then diagnosed as acute nephritis. He
was bed-ridden for much of year and left him with health
problems later in life. After returning from the
Navy he completed high school graduating from Decatur County
High School in 1947. He worked at Francis Furniture store
in Oberlin laying floor covering after graduation. After
being unable to find work in Denver when first married, David
and Eva returned to Oberlin and lived there until 1952.
David again worked for Francis Furniture during this period.
In late 1952, the family moved to Denver and bought a 2 bedroom
home at 4860 Elm Ct which the owned untill 1959. In 1955,
the family moved to home in Edgewater adjacent to a tire
recapping business on the main street. After the business
failed the family moved back to Oberlin for about one year then
returned to the home in Elm Court early in 1957. The
family bought a three bedroom home in Westminster, Colorado
(3521 Westminster Place) and lived there for 3 years. They
bought a 4 bedroom, new home in Arvada in the summer of 1959 and
lived there for one year. In the summer of 1960, the
family moved back to Kansas where David worked for Isaac
Furniture Store in Norton. They purchased a home at 210 South 9th where
the family lived till 1972. In 1972, David and wife Hilda,
purchased a furniture business in Oberlin and moved from Norton
30 miles west to David's childhood home where they lived the
remainder of their lives. They ran McGee Furniture
store until their retirement.
Military: He left high school to join the Navy and served
on active duty from June 25, 1945 to August 5, 1946. He
was stationed on the USS Kline (APD 120), Destroyer Escort
briefly following the war and during decommissioning of the
ship.

Born Eva Eliza Corcoran and named after her maternal grandmother.
Eva changed her middle name to Marie as an adult.
She was born November 27, 1930 in Oberlin, Decatur Co.,
Kansas and died February 23, 1973 in Denver, Adams
County, Colorado,
the youngest daughter of
Clarence Valerian Corcoran and
Wilna Florence Hanchett.
After her mother died when Eva was 22 months old, she and
her sister Gladys Corcoran were raised by her
aunt and uncle in Oberlin,
Hanorah Ann Corcoran and
John Webster Bivans. Her brother,
Virgil Corcoran, was raised by her father,
Clarence Corcoran and step-mother, Beula
Sherich (after their marriage in 1937) in rural Decatur
County. Prior to 1940, Clarence, Beula and Virgil Corcoran
moved to Boone County, Arkansas to farm. Picture below was
taken shortly after Eva and Gladys were taken in by John and
Anna Bivans.

Life/Residences: After the death of her mother, she was
raised in Oberlin, Kansas in the home of John and Anna Bivans (see
photograph). John and Anna were successful business
owners in Oberlin and did not have any children. They were able
to provide the children with a relatively affluent upbringing in
rural Kansas during the depression. Eva graduated from
Decatur County High School in May 1948 and eloped to marry David
McGee a few months later. She had three children within
3 1/2 years before she reached the age of 24. She worked
as dental assistant in Denver circa 1957-1958.
